Job Accountabilities

In this critical position you will develop, implement, maintain, modify, and improve automation tools for Module manufacturing. You will directly support the Module operation in Hillsboro, OR.  This high-impact position will be focused on sustaining, implementing and optimizing highly automated, module manufacturing processes and tools which will greatly increase capacity for end-to-end integrated solar photovoltaic manufacturing in the United States.

 

Primary responsibilities for this position include:

  • Perform and drive safe behaviors in all tasks and areas. Initiate and drive safety improvements in methods, machines, processes and areas.
  • Support a 24/7 high-volume production facility including off-hours, on-call, and on-site support
  • Become automation equipment owner, drive equipment effectiveness (OEE), and continuously improve overall equipment capabilities.
  • Work closely with Maintenance and Production personnel to support efforts, which will improve the performance of manufacturing systems, e.g. yield, speed, personnel requirements, cost savings, and maintenance needs.
  • Defining processes for staff (incl. training of technicians as well as follow-up verification), materials, equipment (including cycle times), operations and MES.
  • Troubleshoot PLC program glitches, robot malfunctions, manufacturing equipment issues
  • Establish work instructions and procedures for minor and major equipment maintenance tasks.
  • Program robots for series of manipulator (arm-hand) moves (movements) manually or by electronic instructions to a microprocessor or by setting up and adjusting sequence by hand-held teach pendant.
  • Support production technicians in resolving and addressing process or equipment problems as needed.
  • Work cooperatively, cross-functionally, and independently to achieve project goals. 
  • Understand financial impact of specific decisions including BoM's and ERP capability.
  • Keep up-to-date with automation technology developments, new trends, applications, equipment and suppliers.  Apply knowledge to promote continuous improvement of operations function. 

 

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

  • Bachelors degree in a technical discipline or equivalent years of work related experience is required. 
  • Must have a minimum of 5+ years’ experience in a similar engineering role which involves planning, designing, implementing, and modifying fully integrated robotic and automation manufacturing systems for high-volume, 24/7, assembly production environments.
  • Must have 3+ years’ experience writing new programs for Siemens PLCs controls along with hardware & software development, digital/analog IO, interface to motion controller, TCP/IP interface or MES communication.
  • Must have 3+ years’ experience integrating and programming robotics (I.E. 5-6 axis, floor mount, gantry, REIS, FANUC, etc.) into new or existing production sites.
  • Thorough understanding of stepper/servo motors, drive systems, vision systems, sensor technologies and applications, and machine control systems.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to correlate automation problems with material, personnel, equipment, process changes, DoE/Stat/Six Sigma, etc., data & trend analysis.
  • Experience with LEAN manufacturing or other vigorous quality control programs is desirable.
  • Must be have strong communication skills and must have ability to work in multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience with EPlan, Inventor is a plus.
  • Allen Bradley PLC experience is a plus
