Job Accountabilities


Facilities - HVAC Technician

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Facilities HVAC Technician is a senior subject matter expert in HVAC, responsible for operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of site Facilities Equipment in addition to driving tactical scheduling and decision making. The Facilities HVAC Specialist serves the following critical functions on the Facilities team: 1) Excellent problem solver and the go to technical expert in the group and must have EPA 608 Universal Refrigerant Certification 2) Guides lesser experienced employees through complex equipment troubleshooting activities and provide mentorship 3) Performs training and develop training plans for facilities technicians 4) Is the subject matter expert in their specialty and in conjunction with the Engineering group owns decisions and new tool/equipment installations and projects.  5) Prepares purchase requisitions for operating supplies/tools as needed.   6)  Drives continuous improvement activities, maintains the highest standards for workplace safety and quality and is able to successfully manage time and priorities.


Essential Functions:

  • Perform maintenance tasks on all facilities equipment and author work instructions and procedures.
  • Candidates at this level are expected to aggressively identify areas for improvement and act upon them.
  • Works with others to develop and communicate new ideas.
  • Systematically, works with others to remove barriers that affect productivity.
  • Effectively communicates with the team about changes.
  • Consistently demonstrates support of company policies, procedures and management decisions.
  • Maintain housekeeping in work areas in accordance with 5S (lean) principles.
  • Contribute to project teams to implement effective facilities equipment and maintenance improvements.
  • Properly monitors CMS and escalates issues appropriately.
  • Effectively communicates incidents and facilities issues that affect quality.
  • Train team members in routine and corrective maintenance tasks.
  • Serve facilities team as the resident technical expert for all tools in their field of expertise.
  • Troubleshoot facilities equipment issues, using a variety of tools and demonstrating a strong aptitude for systematic problem solving.
  • Identify potential safety hazards and take steps to prevent accidents or injuries.
  • Comply with all company safety and environmental requirements.
  • Ensures good area housekeeping.
  • Assists with Job Safety Analysis.


Job Requirements

  • The successful candidate will have demonstrated mastery of Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning
  • Completion of a 2-year technical training, or degree program, or apprentice program, plus 6 years of experience in relevant specialty in a manufacturing/industrial/construction environment or a comparable combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read and comprehend complicated blueprints, schematics, specifications, codes, calculations and handbooks
  • HVAC Certification
  • DDC/HVAC Controls experience preferred
  • Current CFC License
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access) knowledge
  • 40 hour Hazwoper certification preferred
  • ERT experience preferred
  • Familiarity with Chilled water and steam distribution systems
  • A working knowledge of basic equipment and manufacturing safety procedures is required (e.g., lock-out / tag-out, electrical / high-voltage, chemical, reading SDS, incident response procedures).

Physical requirements

  • Must have the ability to lift up to 40 lbs and be physically able to perform some repetitive motions
  • Must be able to work an 8-hour shift
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods
  • Perform tasks (that may be repetitive) that require reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, walking, stooping and/or bending
  • Work in an environment that generates OSHA permissible machine noise levels
  • Visually, observe and differentiate small moving parts
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment
  • Alternate schedules as needed to meet company goals
  • Use and operate ladders, golf carts, man lifts, cherry pickers, forklifts and other large equipment
  • Perform work at heights
