    Job Accountabilities

    The Cell Process and Equipment Engineering Manager is responsible for directing, coordinating and developing all process/procedural activities and equipment specifications for SolarWorld's world-class Solar Cell Engineering department. This position ensures adequate tool, process and personnel capabilities are continuously developed and maintained for supporting a high volume 24/7 manufacturing operation. As the leader of the Cell Process and Equipment Engineering team, this position selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure optimum manufacturing efficiencies to accomplish business objectives.

    • Ensure safe and environmentally sound practices within all areas through best practices and employee involvement. Must conform to all safety regulations and or procedures and maintain a safe working environment always.
    • Provide strategic direction and leadership for department objectives while meeting customer expectations for service and quality.
    • Manage the individual process startups and equipment modifications to ensure that all required systems are fully capable to meet production schedule requirements.
    • Drive continuous technology improvements, cost reduction and quality improvement projects.
    • Coordinates plans with production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products. Interacts with production, purchasing and controlling to ensure continuous and efficient operation.
    • Directs engineering activities to modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.
    • Insures coordination of technology implementation on production floor.
    • Ensure processes / tools / systems are aligned with other operation and engineering groups.
    • Understanding of Statistical Process Control and DOE.
    • Strong technical and problem solving skills. Drives resolution of issues including determination of Root Causes and identify and verification of Corrective Actions using structured problem solving methodology.
    • Must possess excellent project management capabilities, as this position will be responsible for driving large projects to successful completion according to established timelines.
    • Strong leadership skills, independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities.
    • Strong team building and facilitation skills required to work with various departments and peers.
    • Actively develop the engineering team through hiring, motivating and training employees to build and optimize departmental functions for the required 24/7 operational support.
    • Manages direct group effectively. This includes: performance management, career development and coaching engineers and other individual contributor positions.
    • Must have a "whatever it takes" attitude to get the job done (This may mean working long hours, weekends, nights, etc.)

    This position is ideal for a seasoned technology expert with prior leadership role(s). The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with project and program leadership capability. The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant science. Preference for Master's degree in related discipline.
    • Must possess a minimum of 8 years of direct process/equipment engineering along with 2+ years leadership experience in a relevant high-tech manufacturing environment.
    • Drive continuous technology improvements, cost reduction and quality improvement projects.
    • Strong analytical skills required. This includes experience with standard quality tools such as DOE, SPC, FMEA, and Process Mapping. Use of analytical software packages such as JMP, Minitab or Statistica is required.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office productivity tools such as Word, Excel and Power Point as well as ERP/MES systems for reporting. Additional preference for knowledge and use of project management software.
    • Familiarity with ISO or similar quality systems is preferred.
    • Experience with change control is required and leading task forces.
    • Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to achieve objectives by working in and with cross-functional and multi-cultural teams.
    • Must have the ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Must possess valid driver's license, valid passport and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
