    Job Accountabilities

    This position reports to the Quality Engineering Manager. The successful candidate will lead projects and initiatives to increase yields and improve various measures related to product quality and reliability as well as employ and deploy quality and analysis tools to achieve world class operational performance. The Quality Engineer will collaborate with the Cell and Module divisions to achieve cross-departmental objectives. The scope of the work encompasses both technical and operational elements.  

     

    The successful candidate will collaborate with process engineers, equipment engineers and the manufacturing team to set up sustainable line systems and lead cross-functional task forces to improve overall quality.  The Quality Engineer will work with Module vendors for ensuring compliance as well as improving reporting methods for pertinent and critical material data.  Systems will be created and/or improved for streamlining information for prevention of issues as well as continuous improvement. 

     

    Primary responsibilities for this position include:

    • Lead quality improvement projects with a disciplined, structured problem solving approach, aligning to business priorities.
    • Own and coordinate necessary metrology and inspection processes to ensure quality expectations are met.
    • Manage product qualifications and drive BOM improvements with compliance to UL and IEC standards.
    • Drive deliverables to improve process capabilities and march toward elimination of defects. Partners will include product management, procurement, engineering tool owners, operators and maintenance technicians and spans Cell, Module, R&D, and suppliers.
    • Analyze process control and inspection data for trends, variation, and improvement opportunities.
    • Communicate project objectives, status, barriers, metrics and results to all levels of the organization as required.
    • Serve as a change agent in deploying a world class quality system and in sharing and implementing best practices.
    • Facilitate structured problem solving approaches to excursion management, documenting risk management decisions and corrective and preventive actions.
    • Coach and mentor Module Process Integration Technicians, aligning with overall systems, quality and reliability goals.
    • Champion quality metrics across the business processes.
    • Facilitate and improve current quality systems and/or create systems of appropriate monitors to that drive and document structured problem solving.
    • Identify areas for both continuous improvement and breakthrough improvement.
    • Monitor yield areas and develop tracking for metrics concerning continuous improvement in key areas.
    • Own calibration and standards requirements within the Module group.
    • Manage proactive quality improvements and incoming quality standards with suppliers. Manage discrepant materials and subsequent improvements with suppliers.

     

    Job Requirements

    This position is ideal for an experienced process engineer or process oriented quality engineer with experience as a tool owner or project manager with High Volume Manufacturing experience. 

     

    The successful candidate will possess the following education and experiences:

    • Bachelor's degree in a technical field with 3-5 years of relevant work experience in high volume manufacturing in photovoltaics, optical electronics or semi-conductor integrated devices, or equivalent.
    • Skilled in project management and process improvement, with the ability to manage multiple and sometimes competing priorities.
    • Experience with Process Mapping and Business Process Improvement and Re-Engineering desired.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
    • Experience in working directly with equipment and material suppliers.
    • Innovative, pro-active, self-directed.
    • Strong math skills for analyzing data and reporting.
    • Proven ability to work well with personnel of all levels.
    • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Supporting a 24x7 manufacturing environment and work under time constraints is required.
    • Must be able to work in an office environment as well as a manufacturing environment.
    • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
    • Application of statistical concepts including: DOE, FMEA, Lean Methods and 6-Sigma desired.
