    Job Accountabilities


    About the Position

    The Service Center Representative interacts directly with employees in all SolarWorld departments to provide front-line support ensuring IT support needs are met. This role is the front-tier of support for the ERP and Manufacturing Execution Systems, and provides assistance and service call routing for all IT supported information systems.


    For training purposes, starting hours are Monday - Friday, 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM. Upon completion of training, this position will transition to a Sunday – Thursday shift, with hours from 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM. TEMPORARY - approximately 6 months. 


    Primary responsibilities for this position include:

    • Interact with internal customers at all business levels to provide outstanding customer service for various levels of desktop support. This includes both direct in-person and over-the-phone remote service.
    • Perform the installation, repair and preventative maintenance of personal computer and related systems.
    • Assist in determining suitable software to meet user requirements.
    • Troubleshoot software and hardware failures and identify network problems when they relate to personal (desktop or laptop) computers. May assist Network Administrator.
    • Assist in the installation, implementation, and upgrades of internal systems. May maintain a tracking system for usage evaluation.
    • Maintain an inventory of all equipment, hardware, software and supplies.
    • Troubleshoot, maintain, and monitor, external and internal hard drives, printers, plotters and scanners.
    • Demonstrate good judgment for selecting methods and techniques to arrive at solutions to pc, network and software problems.
    • Effectively escalate problems to Systems Engineers as needed.
    • Support a variety of systems and tools including first-line support for (but not limited to):
      • MES (Manufacturing Execustion Systems)
      • ERP (Microsoft Navision / SAP)
      • eTime/Kronos Timekeeping
      • SharePoint 2010 / 2013
      • Microsoft Office 2010 / Windows XP / 7 / 8/8.1/10

    This position is ideal for a candidate who is enthusiastic about being a "green collar" worker in the solar photovoltaic (PV) industry. Successful candidates should demonstrate a desire for personal development, communicate easily, enjoy working in a team environment and be highly flexible. The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

    • Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration or related discipline is required.   Consideration will be given to candidates without a degree who can demonstrate equivalent knowledge gained from additional professional experience.
    • Related work experience as an IT Support Technician or similar support role on a corporate Helpdesk or Desktop Support team is desired.
    • Knowledge of support ticketing systems and ability to type a minimum of 50 words per minute.
    • Experience supporting manufacturing or ERP systems is preferred.
    • Must be able to work independently as well as thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, team environment.
    • Strong desire to bring best practices to the team, share your knowledge and expertise and enable your team members' mutual success as the organization continues to grow.
    • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) as well as a strong customer service orientation.
    • Experience supporting Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office applications, and other standard business tools is required. Testing for advanced application knowledge may be required.
    • Computer Support skills to include desktop computer troubleshooting and installation. Internal system knowledge will be developed.
    • Experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
    • Ability to perform hands-on work with customers, including working in an industrial environment to assist users and replace equipment is required.
    • Time management ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
    • Able to document problems/solutions in an internal knowledge database.
    • Ability to work various hours, including possible weekends as needed,
    • Must be able to manage and resolve ambiguity in requirements, assignments and tasks.
    • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a cross-functional, multi-cultural team to achieve business results.
    • Attendance is a mandatory function of this position.
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
    • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time while supporting a manufacturing environment.
    • Must be able to wear personal protective clothing and gear such as hoods, gowns, breathers, ear and eye protection and steel-toed shoes as required by various manufacturing areas supported by the IT Service Desk.
